In the original highland kilt, the fly plaid was simply the end of a long piece of tartan, worn over the shoulder. Our modern interpretations are no less impressive and have become popular ceremonial accessories.

Wear over the shoulder and hold in place with your choice of badge, brooch or pin. Wear this impressive accessory to any formal outfit and really make a statement. If worn with a kilt, keep the length of the fabric the same, as the bottom of the kilt, to create an authentic highland dress look. If you want to show off your heritage, why not opt for a clan crest badge, or brooch, to tie everything together?

Here at Scotweb, we believe you should be able to follow highland dress traditions, but add your own personality. This is why we have a number of fly plaids to choose from.

Fly Plaid with Purled Fringe

Opt for our fly plaid with a purled fringe to add extra texture to your outfit. The fringes are beautifully 'purled', creating an exclusive hand-twisted design, by highly skilled specialists. Whilst purely aesthetic, the feature gives an undeniably exclusive touch to this, already impressive, garment.

Shepherd's Plaid

Why not go completely different and opt for a Shepherd's Plaid? This option still provides the classic look of the fly plaid, but follows the plaid pattern, rather than a tartan one. Pair with a tweed jacket and choose from a range of natural or bright colours to modernise this traditional garment and make it your own.
