The 31st of March marks Ewan McGregor's 46th Birthday. A Scottish actor born in Perth, McGregor has filled our screens since 1993. From Star Wars to Trainspotting, he has played some impressive and contrasting roles.

Growing up in Crieff, McGregor knew from a young age that he wanted to be an actor. By 16 he was working as a stagehand at Perth Repertory while he studied a foundation course in drama at the Kirkaldy Colledge of Technology. At the age of 18, McGregor decided to follow his dreams and left for the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In 1993, McGregor got his big break when he won the leading role in Dennis Porter's six-part TV series 'Lipstick on Your Collar'. In the same year, he made his film debut in Bill Forsyth's 'Being Human'. The following year, McGregor made his first collaboration with director Danny Boyle, with his role in 'Shallow Grave'. In 1996, he made his international breakthrough when he starred in Trainspotting. From this point, McGregor's acting career has gone from strength to strength.

Besides his career, McGregor has accomplished a number of personal achievements. His love of motorbikes saw himself, his best friend, Charley Boorman, and cameraman Claudio von Planta, take to their bikes from mid-April to July in 2004. They traveled from London to New York via central Europe, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Canada and the United States. Travelling just over 22,000 miles, the trip included visits to many UNICEF programs along the route. If you want to read about his journey you can pick up his book, titled 'Long Way Round'.

McGregor will be celebrating 22 years of marriage this year, with 4 daughters to boast of. Although he relocated from London to LA, we love that he has never lost his Scottish accent, which is particularly noticeable in the new Trainspotting T2 film.

Have you all been to see Trainspotting T2 yet? If not you should! In McGregor's latest role we see him return with the rest of the original cast to satisfy fans of a long-awaited tribute to the nostalgic cult classic. Let us know what you think!

Happy Birthday when it comes Ewan! We hope it's a good one!
