Folklore Friday - The Salmon and the Ring
If you've ever seen Glasgow's coat of arms, you might have wondered why salmon are featured. There is a story behind why the coat of arms shows a salmon with a ring in it's mouth. There was a Scottish Queen who was given a ring by her husband, but one day she gave it to a soldier. When the king found out he me the soldier by a river and took the ring. Throwing it in the water, he challenged his wife to retrieve it.
Later on, St Mungo, the patron saint of Glasgow, miraculously returned the ring to the Queen by catching the right Salmon and finding the ring in it's stomach.
