Dooking the Loony
Heavy night? What better way to blow away feeling fragile, than with a dook in the freezing waters of the River Forth? Do you dare to welcome 2018 with a winter splash? For 30 years, thousands of 'Dookers' have taken part in the annual dip, in the freezing River Forth, in the shadow of the world-famous Forth Bridges.
To prepare you for your dook, you can take part in the Dooker's March, which sees dookers parade the highstreet before plunging themselves into the freezing waters. A charity event, this crazy act raises thousands of pounds for charities across the UK. Many dookers come in fancy dress, only adding to this hilarious, impressive spectacle.
If you don't fancy dooking, you are welcome to come and spectate from various vantage points along the route of the parade. For a front row seat, set up camp on the beach to really get a slice of the action. In true Scots style, all Dookers are rewarded with a bowl of hot, fresh Porridge.
