Tartan Designer: choose (and change) colours

How to add colours

Colour palettes for the tartan designerFirst, click or drag colours from any of the three palettes in the ‘Choose colours’ panel, to put them into your Working Palette. The palettes are mostly 'closed' with a simple choice by default. Click the plus icon to see the full range of DC Dalgliesh Weaver's Colours.

To select a colour, simply click/touch it and it will be added to your working palette above. We recommend using 3-5 shades ideally, and usually no more than six. But advanced designers can expand the working palette to 12 spaces, via the Settings (cog icon).

How to remove colours

There are two ways to remove colours from your design.

(1) If you wish only to remove a single colour band from your tartan sequence, click the small ‘delete’ icon beside its slider bar in the Arrange panel.

(2) If you want to remove all uses of that shade in your tartan, and also from your Use list, then touch the shade in the working palette, then  click the delete icon (trash can) above that colour in the working pallete, and confirm your new choice with the tick icon.

How to change colours

Colours buttonOne of the most useful features of our online Tartan Designer is the ability to change any colour in a plaid to a new shade, and see the result instantly. To change all instances of a colour in your design to a new shade, first go back to the Colours panel using the button near the top.

Then either (a) drag the new colour you want to use from the ‘Choose’ panel, and drop it onto the the ‘old’ colour in the ‘Use’ panel; or (b) touch the colour you want to replace to activate it, then touch the replacement shade below, and confirm with the tick icon. You will see the live result in the ‘View’ panel to the right change immediately.

If you only wish to change a single colour band in your Arrange panel, you should drag the new shade from the working palette to just above or below the one you want to replace in the Arrange panel, and delete the old colour band.
